چکیده

Background Besides nitric oxide, carbon monoxide (CO) also activates soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC). CO as well as the CO-donor CORM-2 have been shown to possess vasodilatory properties. Whether these vasodilatory properties by CO can be attributed to sGC activation is still a matter of debate. The aim of this study was to examine the involvement of sGC and its different subunits in CO and CORM-2 induced vasodilatation within different vascular tissues.

Inhibition of nitric oxide-stimulated vasorelaxation by carbon monoxide-releasing molecules.

OBJECTIVE Carbon monoxide (CO) is a weak soluble guanylyl cyclase stimulator, leading to transient increases in cGMP and vasodilation. The aim of the present work was to measure the effect of CO-releasing molecules (CORMs) on the cGMP/nitric oxide (NO) pathway and to evaluate how selected CORMs affect NO-induced vasorelaxation. METHODS AND RESULTS Incubation of smooth muscle cells with some b...

Adsorption of Carbon Monoxide on a (6, 6) Armchair Carbon Nanotube: Ab initio Study

Perhaps the more interesting nanostructures with large application potential, from transistors to probes, are carbon nanotubes. One of the most widely uses of these nanostructures are their applications as gas detector, which is an important application in the field se of environmental technologies. The present work studies the adsorption of carbon monoxide on a (6, 6) armchair carbon nanotube ...

Estrogen increases endothelial carbon monoxide, heme oxygenase 2, and carbon monoxide-derived cGMP by a receptor-mediated system.

Carbon monoxide, a gaseous activator of soluble guanylyl cyclase formed by a subtype of the enzyme heme oxygenase designated heme oxygenase-2 in vascular endothelium, has been found to dilate blood vessels independently from nitric oxide. Because of the parallels between nitric oxide and carbon monoxide, we speculated that estrogen might affect carbon monoxide production in vascular endothelium...

The Generation of Nitric Oxide and Carbon Monoxide Produces Opposite Effects on the Release of Immunoreactive Interleukin-1b from the Rat Hypothalamus in Vitro: Evidence for the Involvement of Different Signaling Pathways*

Both the cytokine, interleukin-1 (IL-1), and the gaseous neurotransmitters, nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO), have been implicated in the control of neuroendocrine functions, such as the release of CRH and luteotropic hormone-releasing hormone from the hypothalamus. Though increased levels of IL-1 in this brain region are unambiguously associated with enhanced CRH and reduced luteotro...
